Krump? or Clown?

So I finally got to see Rize, it's a documentary film by David LaChapelle about Krump and Clown dancing in L.A., and how people use it in the ghetto as a form of release and expression. Amazing. Anyone who's interested in dance, religion or hip-hop will love it. Go see it.

It hurts...

Sooo...apparently...mixing one-week old red wine with a ton of cheap beer and champagne....doesn't make your body happy. In fact, it often results in Naiqueen spending an entire day in bed with nausea and a headache....mmmm yay! It was well worth it tho....we went to Purple Sneakers last night....and the bouncer was a complete and utter moron, which of course, isn't unusual here in Sydney. Anyways, so he didn't want to let Anand, Martin and I into the bar because we didn't have Australian id's...he claims its the law that ALL foreigners MUST have a national ID or passport or else...no Purple Sneakers for you! Eventually Jade's nagging got us in, but it killed the buzz and we left after a couple beers. Ended up at Bar Broadway, had a fabulous time consuming munchies and alcoholic beverages.

Anyways, interesting play coming up in T.O., if anyone is a Sex in the City fan. Seline just told me about Sass in the City playing in Toronto this month. The play is essentially a Toronto take-off of Sex in the City and is supposed to be really cheeky! So go see it since I can't!

Sometimes modern art can really be bullshit

Ah...to have all the time in the world to stroll along the Sydney Harbour...and peruse the Australian Museum of Contemporary Arts. Fabulous.

We saw the "
Interesting Times" exhibit that portrayed contemporary Australian art. One of my favourite exhibits was Ruark Lewis' Banalities, where he took news headlines and cultural/political/social slogans and used white text over a huge black background. Each slogan is numbered like a list, read it, it's awesome! My favourite three: "10 The drunkards finished off their cosmetic treatment in a car; 12 Girls who get involved with men are troublemakers; and 13 Drink narrates old men." He's definately an artist to check out. There was a series of works that really irritated me though. I understand some artists are all about the process of art, rather than the product (quoting Subcontinental Giant), but there were these two pieces that were literally...strips of magazine and newspapers glued to a piece of paper. Is it the nice heavy metal frame that makes it worthy of a museum? Or perhaps the shiny glass covering? Don't get me wrong, I'm all for collage...that's what I love. But really....come on!

Anyways, what better way to end a perfect day than with a perfect night of drunken debauchery! Nic...Dumpy...Junky and Anand came over and...well....you get the picture. Here's a taste:

Hare Krishna Hare Rama

It's amazing how much time you have when you actually wake up in the morning!! I woke up at 10:30 a.m. today and I've already done 3 things: went to the gym (no pounds lighter yet), showered, made breakfast, did my nails....blah blah...and I still have an entire day! AMAZING.

So Nic and I were discussing the Hare Krishnas this morning. I've been to two street festivals in the last two weeks here (
Newtown Street Festival and the Glebe Street Festival) and there have been Hare Krishnas runnin about at both of them. I've always thought they were some crazy hippies who came to India and thought Hinduism was all about free loving spirits and drugs. Apparently not. There's actually a philosophy behind their antics. They do all kinds of humanitarian work all over the world for the homeless, animal protection and the environment. Very cool.

Hare Krishna Hare Rama....hmmm....

P.S. >> If you're into foreign films, go see the Indian film Mangal Pandey. It's fabulous..AMAZING even..think Braveheart but with brown people. Annnd....what's even more fun...check out this game. yay!

Am I too fat?

I'll admit, I've gotten a little dumpy in my last couple of months in Sydney. My attempts to workout have been futile, since I'm incredibly lazy and refuse to make an effort to "get fit." So my muscle-head boyfriend suggested reading this.

Now I'm supposed to work even harder?!?! Ahhh. Have I mentioned that I'm incredibly lazy and hate exercise? Ok, I promise to give it a try...because I really do need to lose a few before seeing my family (who I haven't seen in a couple years) in January. So, let's keep count.

Current weight: 118.8 lbs
Goal for month 1: lose 6 lbs

Ok muscle-head...let's get started.

It's my first post!

I...am now...a Masters. The result? I now have that special piece of paper that validates my new found alcoholism. School ended three weeks ago..and I do believe I have consumed some form of alcoholic beverage EVERYDAY since. I promise I'll be at least 30 lbs. bigger by the time I get home (T.O.), due to the excessive binge drinking.

So this is my very first post on my very first blog. Hopefully this will help all of you keep up with the insanities of my life (which really isn't insanity, it's actually rather boring) since it seems I'm terrible at keeping in touch with e-mails! So read up, leave comments if you like and enjoy!

mmmuuaaah!
